Bramley
![]() Bramley location map
Situated to the east of Rotherham and sitting alongside both sides of the A631, Bramley is a busy, flourishing village with excellent transport links. As well as the aforementioned A631 better known as Bawtry Road, Junction 1 of the M18 (which links to both the M1 and A1) is on the edge of the village.
Modern day Bramley, however, is much changed from the description given to it in the mid 1850’s as a village of 385 inhabitants with approximately 1000 acres of land. Today, you can still find the old church and Bramley Hall in the centre of the village as well as the house that used to be the Wesleyan Chapel where John Wesley preached in 1786, but modern housing estates spread out from the village centre and, when taking the close by districts of Woodlaithes, Flanderwell and Sunnyside into consideration, Bramley now has a population upwards of 8000 people.
![]() woodlaithes housing The majority of the housing is modern with the emphasis being on family accommodation with many 3 and 4 bedroom houses both detached and semi-detached as well as a number of contemporary two storey town houses. Older type properties can still be found in the village centre. Amenity wise Bramley can consider itself rich in many aspects and this provides Rotherham Estate Agents with ample literature when marketing houses in the area.
Schooling;
There are four primary schools in the immediate area Flanderwell Primary Bramley Sunnyside St Albans CofE Bramley Grange
There is one Secondary school in the area
Wickersley School and Sports College
It is considered a fact by many Rotherham Estate Agents that at the moment the quality of the schooling offered in Bramley is one of the reasons why the area is so popular with house buyers.
Shopping;
The village centre has a cluster of shops which includes a Banking facility, Newsagents, Solicitors, Field sports supplies and a selection of fast food outlets.There is also a Supermarket with parking for hundreds of cars and a Post Office on Flanderwell lane as well as a number of convenience stores. Of course there is always a need for serious retail therapy and because of the aforementioned excellent transport links Park Gate Retail World, The Yorkshire Outlet, Rotherham town centre and the incomparable Meadowhall are all within easy driving distance. It is perhaps worth mentioning here that at Bank Holidays, Meadowhall can never be described as “easy driving distance”
Health Care;
There is a Dental surgery in the village centre and a NHS Health Centre and pharmacy on Bawtry Road
Leisure;
Bannatines Fitness centre and swimming pool can be found opposite the supermarket just off Bawtry road while less than a mile down the road Hellaby Hall has its own fitness centre and pool both are privately owned and are open to membership. There are a number of pubs and social clubs scattered around the village most of which serve food.There are speciality restaurants both in the village and at the nearby Tanyard Centre
Local Government;
Bramley falls under the auspices of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough, it is worth noting that Bramley has a parish Council and so there is a small levy on top of the usual Council Tax payment. ![]() web partners
